Remembering, Otherwise
“If we try to save everything, we’ll remember nothing.” In an age of digital mass storage, memory is increasingly shifting into external and searchable spaces. Remembering, Otherwise reflects on how digital archives have changed not only what we remember but also how we remember. Through different perspectives on memory, the project explores the tension between preserving and letting go. Inspired by Umberto Eco’s idea that memory depends as much on forgetting as on remembering, it considers what may be lost when everything is saved. The project also reflects on the lasting value of books and printed matter in how we preserve and experience memory.
